Article
Every August, Edinburgh becomes a very busy festival city. From 15 to 30 August 2026, the Edinburgh International Book Festival is bringing writers and readers together for talks, interviews and other events. [1]
This year's festival has about 600 events and writers from 41 countries. The theme is “Changing Your Mind.” It asks people to stay curious and listen to ideas that may be different from their own. [2][3]
A visitor does not only sit quietly and read. People can hear an author speak, join a discussion, visit a bookshop or listen to a live performance. Some events mix books with music, food, science or politics. [1][2]
The festival takes place at the Edinburgh Futures Institute. It is one part of Edinburgh's famous August festival season, when the city is full of performances, visitors and cultural events. [2]
For book lovers, meeting a writer can make a story feel more personal. A short talk can also introduce a book that someone would never choose in a shop.
A book festival is a simple idea: people meet because they enjoy words and ideas. In Edinburgh, that simple idea becomes a large international conversation for two weeks.
