Scientists in the UK have studied a natural molecule called sodium butyrate. Bacteria in the gut can make this molecule. The new study was published on August 12. [1][2]
The researchers studied chicken immune cells. These cells help the body fight bacteria.
Young immune cells became better at killing several harmful bacteria after they were exposed to sodium butyrate. These included E. coli and Salmonella. [1]
