Christchurch, New Zealand, has built a large network for people who travel by bicycle. The city now has more than 75 kilometres of cycleways. [1]
The council planned 13 major cycle routes. They connect suburbs with the central city and with other important parts of Christchurch. Several routes use separated paths so cyclists do not have to ride directly beside moving cars. [1][2]
One example is the Papanui Parallel route. It was designed as a safe, high-quality connection between northern Christchurch and the city center. Parts of the route use quiet streets and protected cycleways. [3]
