On August 8, the RDS grounds in Dublin are full of polished boots, enormous horses and spectators waiting for one of the week's biggest thrills. The Gallagher Dublin Horse Show runs from August 5 to 9 in 2026 and attracts more than 120,000 visitors in a typical year. [1]
The show has been around for a remarkably long time. The first event connected with the RDS was held in 1864, and the first show organised independently by the Royal Dublin Society followed in 1868 on the lawns of Leinster House. Those early competitions already included horse 'leaping.' [2]
