On August 9, the Gold Coast's G:link light rail is running all the way to Burleigh Heads. [3] The new Stage 3 extension adds 6.7 kilometres of track south from Broadbeach South and eight new stations. [1]
The project is designed for a growing city. Queensland's Department of Transport and Main Roads says Stage 3 includes five more trams. The trip between Broadbeach South and Burleigh Heads takes about 16 to 17 minutes. [2]
Today's timetable makes the opening easy to see. Translink lists G:link departures from Burleigh Heads toward Helensvale, with stops including Second Avenue, Christine Avenue, Miami, Miami North and Nobby Beach. [3] The extension is now part of the regular transport system.
New public transport can also change the streets around it. The City of Gold Coast has made a plan for the area between Broadbeach and Burleigh. It expects the tram to help neighbourhoods around stations grow and change while trying to protect the area's coastal character. [1]
Bus routes, parking and walking habits can change when a new rail line arrives. Some residents may use cars less often, while local businesses may see new customers.
For visitors, the idea is simple: more of the Gold Coast can now be reached by one tram line. For residents, the bigger effects will take longer to see.
