Davao City's Kadayawan Festival reaches one of its busiest weekends on August 14 to 16, bringing together street performance, traditional games, music, floral displays and celebrations connected with the city's Indigenous and Moro communities. This year's theme, We Are One, KadayaONE, emphasizes the relationship among Davao's 11 ethnolinguistic groups as well as the settlers, residents and visitors who now share the city. Organizers describe the concept as a woven pattern in which distinct cultural identities remain visible while forming part of a larger community. [1]
The festival began earlier in August with the return of Subang Sinugdanan ug Panagtagbo, a river event recalling the trading traditions and peaceful interaction of communities that lived around the Davao Gulf. On August 15, cultural and entertainment activities continue during the Great Kadayawan Weekend. The following day brings two of the most visible highlights: Pamulak sa Kadalanan, known for elaborate floral floats, and Indak-Indak, a street-dancing competition. [2]
