Use these 20 discussion questions about IELTS Speaking Part 2 Mixed Practice to run a full speaking lesson with adult learners (C1–C2). Each part opens with a vocabulary warm-up, every question is labelled with the thinking skill it practises, and each part fills roughly thirty minutes of class time on its own.

Part 1
People, Places, and Everyday Experiences
Focus: developing clear one-to-two-minute descriptions with specific details, examples, and personal reactions
Think of one person, one place, and one object that you could describe in an IELTS Speaking Part 2 answer.
Describe each word without saying it directly. Your teacher or partner must guess the word.
DESCRIBE
Describe a crowded place that you have visited. You should say: • where the place was • when you went there • why it was crowded • what you did there and explain how you felt about being in this crowded place. Follow-up questions: 1. Would you go there again? 2. Do you usually avoid crowded places?

Describe a goal that you hope to achieve in the future. You should say: • what the goal is • why you chose it • what you need to do • when you hope to achieve it and explain why this goal is important to you. Follow-up questions: 1. Have you started working toward it? 2. Would anyone help you achieve it?

Describe a building that you find interesting. You should say: • where the building is • what it is used for • what it looks like • when you first saw it and explain why you find this building interesting. Follow-up questions: 1. Would you like to go inside it? 2. Are there many unusual buildings in your area?

Part 2
Memories, Choices, and Future Plans
Focus: organizing longer answers, describing events and decisions, and explaining feelings, reasons, and importance
In one minute, think of two memorable experiences, two useful objects, two people or places, and one future goal.

Describe a skill that you would like to improve. You should say: • what the skill is • when you first became interested in it • how you could practice it • who could help you and explain why improving this skill is important to you. Follow-up questions: 1. Have you practiced this skill recently? 2. Would you like to become very good at it?

Describe a celebration that you enjoyed. You should say: • what was being celebrated • where it happened • who was there • what people did and explain what made the celebration enjoyable.
