Article
There is a huge picture made from flowers in Brussels this week. The Brussels Flower Carpet is open from August 13 to 16 in the Grand-Place. [1][2]
The 2026 picture is based on The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. Hiro Sugiyama created a new version for Brussels. [1]
The flower carpet is very large. It covers about 1,680 square metres and uses hundreds of thousands of flowers. Many of them are dahlias. [1][3]
More than 100 volunteers help put the carpet together. They can finish the large design in about six hours. [3]
People can walk around the square and see the flowers. At night, there are also lights and sound. Visitors can get a higher view from the Town Hall. [2][3]
The carpet stays for only four days. After that, it disappears. This makes the event special because people have only a short time to see it.
