Use these 20 discussion questions about Fashion to run a full speaking lesson with adult learners (B1–B2). Each part opens with a vocabulary warm-up, every question is labelled with the thinking skill it practises, and each part fills roughly thirty minutes of class time on its own.

Part 1
Personal Style and Everyday Clothing Choices
Focus: sharing experience, describing, comparing, prioritizing, explaining preferences, and giving advice
Think of one item of clothing, one verb connected to getting dressed or shopping, and one place where people buy or wear clothes.
Describe each word without saying it directly. Your teacher or partner must guess the word.
EXPERIENCE
How has your personal style changed over time? Describe one change and explain what influenced it.
DESCRIBE
Describe an outfit that makes you feel comfortable and confident. What makes the different items work well together?
PREFERENCE
When choosing clothes, which matters most to you: comfort, appearance, price, quality, or practicality? Explain your priorities.
COMPARE
Compare the clothes people usually wear for work or study with what they wear in their free time. Why are these styles often different?
CULTURE
What kinds of clothing are common in your country because of the climate, culture, or lifestyle? Give some examples.
PRIORITIZE
Imagine you need to build a simple wardrobe with only ten items. What would you include, and which items would be most important?
EVALUATE
When is it worth paying more for clothing, and when is a cheaper option good enough? Consider quality, purpose, and frequency of use.
PROBLEM-SOLVE
What can someone do when they need to dress well for an important event but have a limited budget?
ADVISE
A friend wants to improve their style but does not know where to begin. What practical advice would you give them?
REFLECT
How much can clothing affect a person's confidence or behavior? Describe a situation in which an outfit might change how someone feels.
Part 2
Fashion Trends, Industry, and Social Influence
Focus: analyzing trends, evaluating influence, discussing responsibility, comparing cultures, and creating solutions
Choose one word from each category: Person: designer, customer, model, shop assistant; Action: choose, design, return, recommend; Place: boutique, market, office, fashion show; Feeling: confident, uncertain, impressed, disappointed. Use your four words to describe a short scene in two or three sentences.

Why do some fashion trends become popular very quickly while others disappear or never attract much attention?

How do celebrities, influencers, films, and social media affect the clothes people choose to buy and wear?
